Answers to the most common questions about installing, deploying, or removing the Huntress EDR agent on Windows — by RMM tool, script, or enterprise MDM.
What are my options for installing the EDR agent on Windows?
There are three general approaches: manual installation through the GUI installer, scripted installation using PowerShell, PsExec, or a single command line, and automated deployment through an RMM platform (Datto, NinjaOne, Kaseya, ConnectWise, Atera, N-able, Syncro, LogMeIn, PDQ, or Naverisk) or enterprise device management tool (Group Policy, SCCM, or Intune). If you're deploying to a handful of machines manually, start with Install the Huntress Agent for Windows OS. If you're managing many endpoints through a tool your team already uses, jump to the relevant section below.
How do I deploy the EDR agent through my RMM instead of installing it manually?
Huntress supports direct deployment through most major RMM platforms. Each RMM has its own guide because the setup steps differ: Atera · ConnectWise Automate · ConnectWise Control (ScreenConnect) · ConnectWise RMM · Datto RMM (ComStore) · Datto RMM Automated Policy · Kaseya VSA · LogMeIn Central · N-able N-central · N-able N-sight (SolarWinds) · Naverisk · NinjaOne · PDQ · Syncro RMM.
How do I deploy the EDR agent using Group Policy, SCCM, or Intune instead of an RMM?
For enterprise device management, use Group Policy (GPO) for domain-joined machines, SCCM / Endpoint Configuration Manager if your organization already manages software distribution that way, or Intune (as either a script or a Win32 app package) for cloud-managed Windows devices.
How do I install the EDR agent without a GUI, using a script or command line?
Use PowerShell for the most reliable scripted install with error handling, PsExec for remote execution across machines you can already reach via admin credentials, or a single command line for a quick one-off install (note: this method has no built-in error checking).
I'm imaging machines or using a VM golden image — does the install process differ?
Yes. See Installing the Huntress Agent to a VM Golden Image before deploying — installing directly into a golden image without following those steps can cause every cloned machine to register as the same duplicate endpoint.
How do I remove the EDR agent from a Windows machine?
See Uninstalling the Huntress Agent. If you're removing the agent specifically to stop being billed for it rather than to reinstall, see How do I remove an agent so that I am no longer billed for it? instead — the steps differ.
