Outdated Agent Update July 21, 2022: We have made a change to our Outdated Agent logic within your account dashboard. Agents below current (v0.13.16) will now be identified in the dashboard as outdated. Previously, we considered agents three versions below current (v0.13.8) as outdated. Given the constantly accelerating pace of new agent feature releases, we found that the old logic simply didn’t work anymore. The difference between three agent release versions today is much greater than it was in even the recent past. No action is needed on your part and this change does not affect the functionality of your agents in any way.
Huntress agents are silently updated by our team. This is done through the HuntressUpdater service (HuntressUpdater.exe) which runs in the background. Throughout the day, the updater securely checks with https://update.huntress.io for updates. When a new package is found, it is downloaded, checked for any tampering, and installed without any reboots or user interruptions.
What should you do if your agent is listed as outdated?
Typically, a simple restart of the Huntress Agent and Huntress Updater services will correct the issue. You can accomplish this in one of two ways:
- Recommended: Through your RMM or group policy, attempt to start the HuntressAgent and HuntressUpdater on hosts without these services currently running. When the services start up, they’ll pull down a new agent update and you’ll be good to go!
- Manually start up the Huntress Services and set them as Autostart Delayed by running the following commands in Powershell:
sc.exe config HuntressAgent start=delayed-auto | sc.exe config HuntressUpdater start=delayed-auto | sc.exe start HuntressAgent | sc.exe start HuntressUpdater
